Yusaku Maezawa to be first Moon traveler on SpaceX Big Falcon Rocket

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has ended the suspense over its first private flight to the Moon by revealing that Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa will be the first passenger of its highly ambitious Big Falcon Rocket (BFR).

The 42-year-old, who is considered to be an online fashion tycoon, plans to bring on 6-8 artists along with him for the trip to the Moon. Yusaku Maezawa is the founder of the online shopping site Zozotown, and ranks 18th among the richest people in Japan with a $3 billion fortune to his name, as per Forbes magazine.

Although the name of the first passenger of Big Falcon Rocket has been disclosed, we do not know when the trip is actually scheduled. As of now, the SpaceX rocket to travel around the Moon is under developed.

The 387ft tall Big Falcon Rocket is being designed to make it reusable and it will also be equipped with a dedicated passenger ship.

Whether Yusaku Maezawa will eventually make it to the Moon remains to be seen with the average distance needed to reach there from Earth is 382,500 kilometers! The fact that nobody has gone to the Moon since the Apollo astronauts in 1972, makes the entire mission and the Big Falcon Rocket as overly ambitious.
