Woman delivers baby on Chennai-Gorakhpur Raptisagar Express train

A pregnant woman delivered a baby girl on the running Chennai-Gorakhpur Raptisagar Express train on Wednesday morning.

The 21 year old pregnant woman Rekha was travelling to Gorakhpur from Chennai. She was returning to her home town near Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh along with her mother-in-law and other relative.

She got labour pains near Prakasam district after the superfast Express train left the Chirala railway station.

The woman delivered a baby girl with the help of other woman travelling in the train. The train passengers alerted the ticket collector and informed the railway officials.

The train made an emergency halt at Tenali railway station and the mother along with the newborn baby was shifted to a Government hospital there.

The train has no stop in that station but was halted to shift them to hospital. By the time the train reached the Tenali railway station, a 108 emergency van was kept ready.

Both Rekha and her new born daughter were shifted to hospital where it was reported that the condition of both of them is stable and safe.
