US-based Telugu techie gets 6-month jail term in university fraud

A US-based software employee has been awarded with six month jail term for recruiting students to fake Farmington Univeristy, set up by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Phanideep Karnati studied engineering in Hyderabad and shifted to the US eleven years ago and is one among the eight people who did university fraud.

Telugu techie said that he did not know that it was a fake university and thought it was legitimate by looking after government advertisements on the site.

The US court has already sentenced punishments to other seven people in January 2019. Phanideep was punished on Wednesday and the court asked the authorities to deport him after the imprisonment.

Around 600 students from different countries enrolled in the university and 39 students were recruited. Farmington University has been set up by the ICE to bust fake visa fraud.
