Toronto financial district rocked by multiple explosions

King Street fire incident : Multiple explosions were heard and thick smoke was billowing out from Toronto in Canada following a power transformer explosion in King Street on Monday afternoon.

Toronto police closed off a section of the financial district in the city as a result even as heavy smoke was coming from the sewer grates, as reported by Reuters.

A number of blocks along King and Bay streets were closed due to the blast and the thick smoke during what was a peak rush hour in Toronto. Fortunately, there were no reports of any injuries. Police and fire trucks have been working at the scene of the Toronto fire accident site.

Toronto Fire Captain Adrian Ratushniak told Reuters that the explosions were caused by a fire in a transformer in an underground electrical vault.

Toronto Fire Service tweeted that heavy smoke was detected in the PATH system and the King Street incident was upgraded to 2nd Alarm. It also informed that the south side which is the Royal Bank side was evacuated as part of the rescue efforts.


The latest news is that the King Street fire incident has come under control with no injuries to anybody. Additional crews have been deployed to control the smoke, as per Toronto Fire Service Chief Matthew Pegg.
