Telugu student commits suicide at Chennai Sathyabama University, students on rage

Students of Sathyabama Deemed University went on rampage and set furniture on fire inside campus after one of the student killed herself in her hostel room for sending her out of the class for copying in the examination.

The Sathyabama University students blamed the college staff for making the girl to commit suicide for cheating in examination. The girl was identified as Duvvuru Raga Monica Reddy.

Raga Monica Reddy was studying first year engineering in Chennai Sathyabama University and originally hailed from Hyderabad. She was attending her second semester exam and was writing engineering chemistry paper when she was caught for copying.

An official from the college reported that: “At around 10.30 am, the invigilator found her suspicious and checked her answer sheet, in which he found she was copying from another paper which she managed to sneak inside the exam hall.

Monica, had written a few answers in another large size paper which she brought inside the exam hall and placed it below her answer sheet from where she copied. She was caught and the invigilator asked her to leave the exam hall”.

The official added: “Depressed by this, she went to her hostel and sent a message to her twin brother Rakesh who studies in the same department at Satyabama University. In her message which she typed in Telugu, she apologized for her mistake of copying and asked for forgiveness”.

When her friends reached the college hostel, they were shocked to see her hanging from the ceiling of her room. Then they alerted the hostel staff and police rushed to the spot. They recovered her body and send it to Royapettah government hospital for autopsy.

Later the University students started setting things on fire inside the campus and did not allow the fire tenders. Huge fire was seen inside the campus. Some students said that she committed suicide as she was shamed in public by the staff.

The girl’s parents are on their way to Chennai from Hyderabad and no one blamed the university. A case of natural death has been registered under the section CrPc 174 and are carrying out the further investigation.

The college declared holidays for the students up to January and all went to their respective places.
