Osmanabad MP Ravindra Gaikwad assaults Air India staffer with slipper

In a shocking incident, a Shiv Sena MP named Ravindra Gaikwad hit an Air India employee with his slippers “25 times” in anger on Thursday at being given an economy class seat in the state carrier’s AI 852.

The flight in question did not have a business class which the Osmanabad MP was demanding for.

A senior Air India official has reportedly told the media that the MP did have a business class coupon but was informed that AI 852 did not have a business class being an all-economy flight. Two other Pune-Delhi flights have business class instead.

The Osmanabad MP Ravindra Gaikwad continued with his flight journey as he had to attend the parliamentary session. When the plane arrived in Delhi at around 10:30 AM, the Osmanabad MP refused to leave it and sat in it for more than half an hour as per media reports.

Taking it as an insult for traveling in the economy class, the Shiv Sena MP hit one of the ground staffers who were requesting him to leave the plane.

Osmanabad MP Ravindra Gaikwad Interview

Speaking to the media after the incident, Ravindra Gaikwad sounded very brazen as he admitted of hitting the Air India staffer while boasting that he was a Shiv Sena MP and not a BJP MP.

The Osmanabad MP Ravindra Gaikwad said: “I am not a BJP MP. I am a Shiv Sena MP and will not tolerate any insult. Let the employee complain. I will complain to the Speaker and other authorities.”

Meanwhile, the assaulted Air India employee at the receiving end of the MP’s high handedness claimed that he was abused by Ravindra Gaikwad who he says broke his specs and humiliated him in front of the crew.

The Air India management is seeking a report on the incident and is expected to act on the same. Whether it will come in support of its employee or bow down to political pressure remains to be seen.
