Nirmala Convent on the verge of becoming a big flop

Nirmala Convent, the teenage love story based Telugu movie which was released on September 16 is turning out to be a big flop with not much of interest shown by audience despite the movie having a cameo from Nagarjuna.

Box office collections are hardly coming for Nirmala Convent which features hero Meka Srikanth and former heroine Ooha’s elder son Roshan in the lead role.

Roshan Meka, who is making his debut as a hero, had earlier played a role in Gunasekhar’s 2015 Telugu movie Rudhramadevi as the young Chalukya Veerabhadra. Rana Daggubati played the grown up character of Chalukya Veerabhadra in the film.

The Nirmala Convent hero interestingly looks almost like his father Srikanth Meka with the exception of his eyes which are a xerox copy of his mother Ooha’s eyes.

Coming back to Nirmala Convent, it also happens to be the Tollywood debut for music maestro AR Rahman’s 12-year-old son AR Ameen who sang the number Kotha Kotha Basha. AR Ameen had earlier sung in his father’s composition in Mani Ratnam’s O Kadhal Kanmani.

Another Roshan – to be more precise Saluri Roshan, who is none other than the son of popular music director Koti, also made his debut through Nirmala Convent. Saluri Roshan is the music director of Nirmala Convent for the record and reports are that only one song that he has scored is anything but good.

Breathless song fame Shankar Mahadevan’s son Siddarth Mahadevan also sang a song in Nirmala Convent.

Already getting tired of this, but Nirmala Convent also features sons of Rajeev Kanakala and Suma’s son and TV actor Prabhakar’s son.

Akkineni Nagarjuna who plays himself in the movie also turned into a playback singer for the first time in his long career. One must say that Nagarjuna did a terrific work singing his version of Kotha Kotha Bhasha perfectly.

Also released in the US, Nirmala Convent had collected embarrassingly low collections of a little less than $7000 as per a report in the Indian Express.

Nirmala Convent is loosely based on Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionarie. This new 2016 Telugu movie has Roshan Meka playing the role of Samuel, a poor boy who falls in love with former child artiste Shriya Sharma who plays the lead female role of Shanti.

Shriya Sharma is none other than the cute girl who was seen as Chiranjeevi’s niece who gets shot dead in the 2005 Telugu movie Jai Chiranjeeva.

So the story is based in a school where Samuel and Shanti fall for each other, and as usual the girl being rich and her dad opposing her love. It is so routine with Roshan Meka aka Samuel wanting to become rich and succeeding in it as well as in his love. The only thing is the path he chooses is kind of interesting as he participates in Nagarjuna’s Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu, the Telugu version of Kaun Banega Crorepati program on Maa TV.

The director of Nirmala Convent is G Naga Koteswara Rao, an aspiring middle aged writer who turned out to be a director for this movie while making his debut.

Nirmala Convent is no big budget movie though as it was jointly produced at just Rs 2 crore by Nagarjuna himself along with Matrix fame Nimmagadda Prasad. So looks it may not be a difficult task for the two producers to get back the money.
