New Zealand hit by 5.9 magnitude earthquake

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand on Saturday as said by GeoNet, New Zealand’s seismic monitoring service.

The earthquake occurred at around 4:34 PM (UTC) and was located at a depth of 115km, about 50 kms northwest of Te Kaha as reported by GeoNet.

No reports of injury or property damage have been reported due to earthquake.

New Zealand is prone to frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions as it lies in the Ring of Fire, an area in the basin of the Pacific Ocean.
