Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa health condition remains to be a huge concern as the latest update is that she remains under close observation of specialists at the Apollo Hospitals with continued respiratory support.
The 68-year-old AIADMK supremo is undergoing intensive treatment which includes continued efforts to decongest her lungs along with nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy as per the Jayalalitha health bulletin released by Apollo Hospitals in Chennai on Saturday evening.
Opposition leaders DMK’s MK Stalin, MDMK chief Vaiko as well as BJP state president Tamilisai Soundararajan and CPI(M) state secretary G Ramakrishnan visited the hospital on Saturday, but none of them were allowed to see Jayalalithaa. Like several others including Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had to be content on speaking with only the doctors about the latest Jayalalitha health condition.
Stalin, son of former Chief Minister and DMK Supremo M Karunanidhi, speaking to reporters conveyed that doctors told him that Jayalalitha was “recovering” and nothing more than that.
Stalin said: “Karunanidhi had already released a statement wishing her best of health and she should return to govern soon. We came to the hospital to enquire about her health. We met minister O Panneerselvam and Vijaya Bhaskar. We have been informed that she is recovering. We hope that she gets well soon.”
Meanwhile, the AIADMK is taking measures towards naming an interim Chief Minister. Most likely it could be the Finance Minister O Panneerselvam to step in as the interim Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Jayalalitha’s close aide Sasikala Natarajan is alleged to be calling all the shots in the state because of the deteriorating Jayalalitha health condition. Retired IAS officer Sheela Balakrishnan is said to be looking after the administration affairs.
On the other side, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Subramaniam Swamy has written to Home Minister Rajnath Singh to consider six months of President’s Rule in Tamil Nadu because of the political uncertainty prevailing over CM Jayalalithaa health condition.
There is also a possibility that a significant number of AIADMK MLAs could jump the ship to join the DMK in the wake of the present Jayalalitha health status, and in turn make the present government fall.
