Iran plan crash : Aseman Airlines domestic flight crashes near Semirom, leaving 66 dead

Iran plan crash : Sixty passengers and six crew members on board an Iranian domestic flight were killed after the aircraft operated by Aseman Airlines, the Iranian carrier, crashed on Sunday in central Iran.

The Iranian domestic flight crashed down owing to bad weather in the Zagros Mountains.

As per the publication, the Iran plan crash 2018 took place near Semirom, a town in the Isfahan Province on its way to Yasuj, the capital of the Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad Province, located in the southwestern region of the country.

The Aseman Airlines domestic flight, which was manufactured by ATR, took off from the Mehrabad airport in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

As per media reports, rescue helicopters are struggling to launch their mission of retrieving the bodies as they are finding it difficult to make a landing at the Iran plane crash site owing to heavy fog and snow conditions. However, emergency workers are searching the Zagros mountain range by land, reported the Iranian media.

The Iran plan crash could have taken place 50 minutes following its take off from the Mehrabad airport, as that was the time when the twin engine turboprop ATR 72 Aseman Airlines domestic flight vanished from radar screens.

Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, gave a statement on the Iran plan crash, which reads: “The tragic event of a recent passenger airplane crash, that led to the loss of a number of our dear compatriots, filled our hearts with grief and sorrow. I express my deepest condolences to their mourning families.

“I ask God to bestow patience and rewards upon the affected families and may God’s mercy and blessings be upon all passengers who lost their lives. The concerned officials must make their utmost efforts; they must cooperate on taking all necessary measures in this regard, allowing respect and proper burials of parted loved ones.”

The latest Iran plane crash comes just a week after news of a Russia plane crash which killed all 71 people on board, minutes within its take off from Moscow’s Domodedovo Airport.
