India’s first engineless train ‘Train 18’ made debut on the tracks in Chennai on Monday.

This Train 18 is driven by a self-propulsion module sans a separate locomotive engine. Train 18 or T18 can run at a speed upto 160 kmph and is designed with quick acceleration.

Train 18 will have 16 coaches without a locomotive and will cut travel time by 15% compared to Shatabdi Express.

Train 18 is made in Chennai by Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in 18 months time.

The Train 18 is fitted with CCTV cameras and would have two executive compartments in the middle with 52 seats each and the trailer coaches would have 78 seats each.

Train 18, which is a self-propelled train has diffused lighting, automatic doors and footsteps beside GPS-based Passenger Information System.
