Ind vs Eng 4th Test Result : Ashwin spins India to innings victory

Ind vs Eng 4th Test result : India eased to an innings and 36-run victory over England in the Ind vs Eng 4th Test 2016 at Mumbai which finished on Monday.

Off-spinner R Ashwin took a match-haul of 12 for 167 as India stretched its series lead to 3-0 with only the opening Test at Rajkot having no result.

Everyone thought that England had done well when they posted 400 in their first innings on a pitch that had plenty of turn with extra bounce. The visitors rode on a century on Test debut from Keaton Jennings.

For India, R Ashwin took six wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets in the English first innings.

In reply to England’s 400, India cruised through past the total with opener Murali Vijay scoring a solid 136, his second century of the series. Skipper Virat Kohli with a third double century in the year, scoring a career best of 235 along with Jayant Yadav, who scored a maiden Test century with his 104, took the game away from the visitors.

Virat Kohli and Jayant Yadav registered a record 241-run partnership for the 8th wicket to help India pile up a massive first innings total of 631. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid was the most successful bowler for the visitors taking 4 for 192.

England having conceded a first innings lead of 231 runs had a worst start losing Keaton Jennings for a first ball duck to a Bhuvneshwar Kumar inswinger.

By the close of day four, England’s chances of saving the game were bleak at 182 for 6. On the final day, it was matter of few minutes before R Ashwin completed the clean up job to take six wickets in an innings for the second time in the match.

Virat Kohli was adjudged as the Man of the Match.

The Ind vs Eng 5th Test will be played at Chennai from Friday where the city has been disturbed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha death news and the destruction caused by Cyclone Vardah landfall on Monday.
