Handwara Terror Attack : Rashtriya Rifles foils terror attack killing three fidayeen terrorists

The Indian Army’s Rashtriya Rifles have foiled a terror attack on their camp in Kupwara district in north Kashmir by killing three Pakistani terrorists.

No casualties were reported from the Indian army’ counter-insurgency/anti-terrorist force.

The Handwara terror attack saw the Indian soldiers recover a massive quantity of arms and ammunition from the dead terrorists along with communication devices.

Medicines recovered from the dead terrorists in the Handwara attack had Made in Pakistan labels.

According to 30 Rashtriya Rifles Handwara commanding officer Col Rajiv Saharan, the terrorists had three AK-47 rifles besides two under barrel grenade launchers, small arms, grenades, ammunition along with GPS radio sets, maps and also food and communication items.

Col Rajiv Saharan said: “Our sentries, who were on high alert carried out retaliatory fire to deny terrorists who entered our fencing. Our quick reaction team was activated. They localised the area where the terrorists were spotted, and after that, they carried out sanitisation of the area. Three Pakistani terrorists were eliminated.”


The Handwara terror attack began around 5:00 AM on Thursday with the terrorists opening fire at an army camp in Langate.

Following the completion of the retaliatory operation, the soldiers have been carrying out combing operations to capture any hiding terrorists in the vicinity of Handwara.

The Handwara terror attack is the second such incident happening after India’s surgical strikes on September 29. It is the third attack from fidayeen militants over an Indian army camp including the Uri terror attack on September 18.

On October 3, Pakistani fidayeen had launched an attack on an army unit in Baramulla town in which one Border Security Force soldier martyred. While a couple of terrorists were reportedly shot dead, some of them had managed to escape in the darkness of the night, using human shields.
