Gurmeet Ram Rahim verdict : Dera Sacha Sauda chief found guilty in rape case, likely to be jailed for seven years

Ram Rahim verdict : Self-styled godman, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has been convicted by the CBI court in Panchkula of rape charges and is likely to be given a jail sentence for seven years.

There will be a court hearing on August 28 to announce the jail sentence in the Ram Rahim verdict.

There is a lot of tension in Panchkula owing to the high-profile rape case hearing against Ram Rahim whose followers are likely to indulge in violence with the verdict going against their leader.

Earlier in the day, Ram Rahim had left his residence at Sirsa with a huge convoy comprising as many as 200 cars but eventually only two cars were permitted to enter the CBI court in Panchkula.

The CBI court delayed reading out its verdict for some time to reduce the anticipated violent reactions from Ram Rahim’s followers and at the same time give him safe passage from Panchkula to the Ambala Jail where he will be lodged after being found guilty.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had earlier said: “I appeal to all, especially Dera Sacha Sauda followers, to maintain peace. Whatever the verdict, we will implement it. We are prepared for all eventualities.”

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh who claims to have 50 million followers found himself in trouble when an anonymous letter reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court from Sadhvis who alleged sexual exploitation by the Dera Sacha Sauda chief.
