Chinese smartphone manufacturer Gionee is all set to establish a manufacturing unit in Haryana.
Gionee has made a commitment with the Haryana government to start the first phase of manufacturing unit with an investment of Rs 500 crore.
This manufacturing unit will be built in 50 acres of land in Faridabad.
Gionee India CEO and Managing Director Arvind Vohra has been quoted in the media saying: “Keeping in line with our Make in India initiatives, we have taken it a step further from having two facilities to setting up our own manufacturing unit in India. This unit will help us achieve the inventory levels required to take Gionee to the next level of growth.”
This new Haryana manufacturing unit is expected to create around 28,000 jobs in the next three years.
Gionee manufactures 30 million units annually and is now setting a target of producing 6 lakh mobiles from this unit.
They are also planning to make the Faridabad facility as an export hub in the future.
Gionee Mobiles Chairman Liu Lirong said: “India is one of our most important markets and Gionee has been seeing an exponential growth here, which will only increase rapidly as time progresses.”
Gionee entered the Indian market three years ago. The company claims to have made a revenue of Rs 3,250 crore by 2015-end.
Last month, Gionee launched its first front flash smartphone in the country branded as Gionee S6s. The company has also launched an ad campaign featuring its brand ambassador actress Alia Bhatt. Gionee S6s starting price in India is Rs 16173.
