Senior Congress leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram was missing for the past 27 hours after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him bail in the INX Media case.
He emerged at the AICC HQ after 27 hours from the hide out and gave a briefing. He said that he was working overnight with the lawyers. CBI and ED teams are now rushing to AICC HQ. He just read the papers and did not take questions from the reporters.
The CBI late on Tuesday night pasted a notice on his gate asking him to appear before the investigation officer within two hours as he was not at his home.
A six member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials reached his Jor Bagh residence one after the other on Tuesday but could not find him at his home.
CBI team went to his residence at around 6:30 PM and left 10 minutes later. ED team reached there at 7:30 PM.
They left that place after confirming that he was not at his residence.
After Chidambaram did not return to his residence after several hours, a CBI team pasted a notice on his gate to appear before R Parthasarthy, CBI Deputy SP, who is probing the case to record statement under CrPC Section 161.
The notice reads, “Whereas it appears that you are acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the cases noted below which I am now investigating under chapter XII of the CrPc, you are hereby directed to attend before me within two hours of the receipt for the purpose of the investigation of the case.”
The CBI is investigating INX Media case which was registered on May 15,2017 alleging irregularities in the FIPB clearance granted to the media group as it received overseas funding of Rs 305 crore when he was Finance Minister. While ED is investigating money laundering case filed in 2018.
