Food-tech company Zomato has stated in a blog post that data of 17 million users record has been stolen from their data base.

The stolen information from the Zomato database includes the email addresses of the users and their passwords.

The Zomato company esured that payment or credit information is safe and has not been stolen by the hacker.

Zomato stated in its blog : “Payment related information on Zomato is stored separately from this (stolen) data in a highly secure PCI Data Security Standard (DSS) compliant vault”.

Zomato added: “The hashed password cannot be converted/decrypted back to plain text – so the sanctity of your password is intact in case you use the same password for other services”.

Eventhough the passwords could be safe as explained by Zomato, it is encouraging its customers to change their passwords if same password is used for other services to avoid any security risks.
