Subhash Batham, a murder convict was on bail and he took 23 children hostage by inviting them to his daughter’s birthday party.
This incident took place in Farrukhabad of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday night. He was killed by the police and the children were rescued.
Local people gathered outside his house and they thrashed the culprit’s wife and she was admitted to a hospital in critical condition.
Later she succumbed to injuries. Her body has been sent for post-mortem and the police are waiting for the reports to know about the cause of the death.
Subhash Batham was shot dead by the UP police in a rescue operation on Thursday night. He invited children for birthday party of his daughter in Kasaria village and locked them up. The hostage condition lasted for around eight hours and the children were rescued safely and accused was shot.
The accused first released a six-month old girl and handed over her to his neighbour from the balcony.
Crowd gathered outside the house and they could hear women and kids wailing and praying for their safe release. They broke open the door to rescue the children.
The accused opened fire in which three policemen and a villager suffered injuries. The police retaliated and killed him on the spot.
Police said that the accused had sent a typed complaint to the district magistrate saying he was denied a house and a toilet under the Central housing scheme for poor. Police suspect it was preplanned to keep hostage of kids by seeing his letter.
