Delhi and Haryana hit by 4.4 magnitude earthquake

National capital Delhi and neighbouring state Haryana were shaken by an earthquake of medium intensity during the early hours of Thursday.

The earthquake was measured as 4.4 on the Richter scale.

As per the reports from National Center for Seismology, a unit of Ministry of Earth Sciences, Delhi was hit by a mild tremor at around 4:30 AM with the epicenter located near Delhi-Haryana border. The reports revealed that the earthquake was of 10 km depth.

Many people in Delhi and neighbouring areas of Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida and Ghaziabad woke up early as they felt a strong jolt at around 4:30 AM. These strong tremors lasted for about a minute.

No immediate loss of life and property were reported from anywhere in the city. Even though the tremors were felt early in the morning, many people tweeted about it at that time itself.

Jalandhar district of Punjab was also hit by an earthquake of 3.6 magnitude yesterday. It had reported an earthquake depth of 13 km.

As per reports from United States Geological Survery (USGS), the epicenter was near Rewari district in Haryana.

Few places in Rajasthan also felt the tremors but no loss of property and life were reported.

As per the MeT department, mild tremors of 4.4 magnitude were felt near Haryana-Rajasthan border at around 4.28 AM .

State police control room said: “No loss of property was reported in the state.”
