Haryana BJP leader son Vikas Barala and his 27-year-old friend have been slapped with section 365 of the IPC which relates to attempted abduction and section 511 which is attempting to commit offences that can lead up to imprisonment for life.

Vikas Barala and his son were first arrested on 5 August under five different sections of the IPC including drunken driving though serious charges relating to kidnapping were dropped by the police then. Following that Vikas Barala and his friend were granted bail in the Chandigarh stalking case.

Persistent media coverage though ensured that the duo had to face the heat leading to their re-arrest four days later.

The victim Varnika Kundu had first opened up on Facebook explaining her ordeal relating to the Chandigarh stalking case. Later on, she appeared on various news channels as the case which seemed to be confined only to Chandigarh and Haryana blew into a massive issue for the BJP as the party had to fight off attempts by the Congress and other parties in politicizing the issue.
