Blue Whale Challenge drives Madurai college student to commit suicide

Another college boy committed suicide in Madurai of Tamil Nadu as a part of dangerous Blue Whale Challenge game.

The Russian-based online suicide game is taking at least one life each day in India recently. Yesterday, a college student committed suicide in Madurai by hanging himself inside his home as a part of the last challenge in the game.

This is the first death of Blue Whale Game reported from Tamil Nadu. The boy identified as Vignesh is 19 years old and lives in Kalaignar Nagar at Vilacheri in Madurai district. He is the younger son to his parents, Jeyamani and Vanitha.

Vignesh was studying B Com second year in a private college in Thiruparankundram.

On Wednesday afternoon, Vignesh’s parents were away from the house and he had lunch along with his friend. His friend left his house after lunch and during the evening time, Jeyamani returned home and shocked to see his son hanging from the ceiling.

The body of Vignesh was sent to Tirumangalam Government Hospital for a post mortem examination after the police were informed about the incident.

The police in primary investigation found that Vignesh carved the shape of a whale on his left arm with the help of a sharp object and also written Blue Whale on his hand below the carving using a blue ink pen.

The police also found a handwritten note that reads: “Blue Whale – this is not a game but a disaster. Once you step inside, you can never leave.”

Police officials suspected that Vignesh committed suicide as the last task to end his life. Police are checking his mobile phone to find clues to know if he was playing the game and whether he was blackmailed or put on pressure to kill self.

The Austinpatti police filed a case and doing further investigations. Even though the game was banned in the country as many people all over the world are committing suicide, they are however downloading and playing the deadly game.

Recently, a Chennai girl jumped off from 7th floor and died. In Mumbai also a teenage boy jumped from seventh floor of his building.

Few students were rescued at different places when they went from their home. A few students were saved from committing suicide in some incidents.
