Indian music maestro AR Rahman is once again in Oscar Race for his work in ‘Pele: Birth of a Legend’ and will take part at the Academy Awards for the year.
‘Pele: Birth of a Legend’ is based on the early life of legendary Brazilian footballer Pele and is Co-directed by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist.
AR Rahman had already bagged double Oscar in 2009 for Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He was awarded for his Best Original Score and also the Best Original Song ‘Jai ho’ from the same film, lyrics written by Gulzar.
His name is spotted in a long list of 145 scores in contention for a nomination in the Original Score Category for the 89th Academy Awards this year.
His other song ‘Ginga’ from a 2016 biographical film is also in the Oscar race. This is competing with other 91 songs in the final nominations for the Original Song category.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences released this two long lists of both these categories on its official website on Tuesday.
89th Academy Awards final nominations will be announced on January 24 whereas the presentation ceremony of 89th Academy Awards will take place on February 26 at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
AR Rahman also received two nominations at 83rd Annual Academy Awards for his original score in Boyle’s ‘127 Hours’ and original song ‘If I rise’ for the same film.
In the year 2014, AR Rahman’s work in ‘Million Dollar Arm’ and ‘The Hundred-Foot Journey’ of Hollywood movies and Indian film ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ were also among the contenders.
