Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer has opened a 10-acre campus in Hyderabad and is the second-largest campus in the world outside the US.
The Amazon’s new campus was inaugurated by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali and IT Secretary Jayesh Ranjan. The new campus is located in the IT hub of Gachibowli and can employ 15,000 people.
Around 62,000 employees are working in Amazon in the country and it will look after backend operations for the company’s global business and technology teams.
The construction of Amazon’s Gachibowli campus began around 3 years ago. Amazon started its backend operations in 2005-06 and has three fulfillment centres in Hyderabad with more than 3.2 million cubic ft of storage. Additionally, it has two sorting centres with 1 lakh sq ft of processing capacity in the city.
