Aamir Khan Dangal movie wins Best Asian Film Award at AACTA

Aamir Khan’s Dangal movie is awarded with the Best Asian Film award and was unanimously chosen at the seventh Australian Acadey of Cinema and Telvision Arts (AACTA) Awards, the ceremony which took place in Sydney.

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi who served as one of the jury members on the panel led by the Hollywood star Russell Crowe in this year’s inaugural category praised the film’s team in the twitter.

Shabana Azmi took it to twitter and congratulated the Dangal team and wrote: “‘Dangal’ wins Best Asian Film at AACTA. Congratulations Team Dangal. With Russel Crowe chairman of the jury. It was a unanimous decision”. He posted a selfie with the Oscar-winning actor.

Hollywood star Russell Crowe posted: A huge task being the Grand Jury President for the inaugural @AACTA Asian film award. 9 amazing nominees. Such an honour to be on the stage tonight announcing the Indian film #Dangal as the winner . A beautiful & empowering film, see it !!”.

Dangal directed by Nitesh Kumar was a sports drama based on the life if a Haryana wrestler Mahavir Phogat and his daughters. Aamir Khan essayed the role of Phogat and his daughters (adult) roles were played by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra as Geeta and Babita.

Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar were seen as young Phogat sisters and their mother role was played by Sakshi Tanwar. Along with Dangal, Pink and Kasav:Turtle, a Marathi film were among the nine films which were nominated for the inaugural AACTA Best Asian Film award. Actor Anupam Kher also served as one of the jury member on the panel.
